Consumer Devices Solutions

When we talk about “Consumer” we mean a product designed for private use, that is, for that consumer who, not having particular needs, makes limited use of the device. On the contrary, an Industrial device is designed to perform four main functions: intense use, to safeguard a greater quantity of data, to be faster and more durable over time.

Industrial and Consumer are not competitive products, since they are two completely different realities. Let’s look at some of the main differences:

Quality of materials: the various brands tend to build computers depending on the use that will be made of them. The body of Industrial computers is more resistant to impacts, possible falls, temperature changes and dust. Some even offer waterproof keyboards; they are usually built with lighter and more resistant metal alloys. The hinges are designed to be subjected to a greater number of openings and closings, the batteries to support long hours of work, switching on and off. The materials used to assemble these products are made with more resistant and lightweight metal alloys and the keyboards and electronic components are able to withstand greater stress and more intensive use.

Purchase channels: The consumer range is sold in shopping malls or large GDO stores, while the professional range is only available in specialized channels.

Aesthetic factor: Consumer devices have a more modern and attractive visual impact. Industrial range PCs and notebooks usually have a more sober design, as they are intended for corporate offices. They therefore prefer dark colors, such as black and gray, even if in recent years the design has been moving towards metal bodies.

The type of screen: consumer devices are glossy and show bright and vivid colors. Despite the apparently better aesthetics, this type of screen is not very functional if used in conditions of high ambient brightness because, in addition to making the viewing angles narrower, it produces a mirror effect that makes visibility difficult. Professional computers are equipped with opaque and anti-glare schemes, which facilitate their use for more hours a day.

Spare parts: those of consumer computers are difficult to find, in addition to being more expensive, while for Industrial ones, manufacturers ensure spare parts and extended assistance.

Consumer Devices IT in the new Industrial world

Consumer Devices Solutions

Digital Transformation is a fact that cannot be avoided. Companies that want to continue to be competitive and develop new business models must also place so-called “Consumer” solutions within their processes and let their users use different types of devices to equip themselves with new governance, technological infrastructures and “end user” style service methods.

Challenges that also represent new opportunities for the industrial world; in fact, alternative technologies and professional services offered by this world can help a lot in the competitiveness of ad-hoc solutions.

However, it also takes courage, curiosity and pragmatism to adopt the right product and only in the specific project that can support these so-called “Consumer” solutions

Industrial projects from the consumer world

The debut of ever new paradigms, business models, devices and applications that exploit the growing convergence between different sectors, such as between so-called “Industrial” and “Consumer” solutions, also thanks to the cloud and open standards, multiply the possibilities for innovation in the world of system integrators. Often, the latter from the “Industrial” world are increasingly able to integrate devices expressly dedicated and designed for the consumer world, within their kiosks and Digital Signage solutions. “Consumerization” has in many situations reduced the distance between the needs and the response capabilities of industrial developers. Putting innovative IT processes at the center of industrial projects, even with solutions from the “Consumer” world, allows us to discover that using technologies in a different way than what was originally planned, offers greater competitiveness, new opportunities based for example on “gamification”, to put into practice the assigned ‘to do lists.

Supporting system integrators in the industrial world with a healthy and correct pragmatism and intellectual curiosity are among the best ingredients of a new way of delivering new concepts & more competitive products also in the “Industrial” world
